The board as a whole is responsible for corporate citizenship. The management team ensure that our business activities are undertaken in line with our corporate citizenship responsibilities. The Corporate Citizenship Committee advises the management team on these issues and is headed up by the Company Secretary.
People - Health and Well Being
We conduct our business in a way that ensures the health and well being of our employees, contractors and any person affected by our activities. We also encourage a health and safety culture within our organisation in that everyone has a responsibility for their own and others well being.
Examples of our commitment to these principles include ROSPA defensive driver training made available for all staff, managing confrontation courses and fire safety awareness training.
People - Training and Development
We are committed to encouraging the continuous development of our staff, with the objective of both maximising their potential and the overall performance of the business.
It is a legal and regulatory requirement that all investment staff receive anti-money laundering training and periodic refresher courses. A programme of training is in place to discharge these obligations.
Employees are encouraged to seek further development opportunities and a high percentage of our staff are currently involved in or have recently completed programmes of higher education.
Environment
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues the world faces today. In response to this challenge, UK Steel Enterprise will be part of the solution. We have adopted the following policies regarding energy usage.
At our properties we will actively manage our energy usage and find ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our properties.
Through our investment activities, wherever possible, we will support new and existing clients in their initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint.
At all times we will actively engage our workforce, encouraging everyone to contribute.
We have also been keen to promote recycling and waste reduction initiatives at all our Innovation Centres and managed work space. For example facilities such as the waste compactor and recycling units at our Sheffield site have been made available to tenants as well as for our own use.
UK Steel Enterprise is a subsidiary of Tata Steel.
