8th September 2010UKSE Sponsors Scheme for Young Entreprenuers
UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE) has presented £1,000 to two young businessmen who have been named as Lanarkshire's top entrepreneurs at the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards'.
UKSE is the award sponsor of the PSYBT scheme which recognises and rewards young people who have ventured out on their own and started a business. The Lanarkshire regional awards took place on Friday September 3rd 2010. Partners Greg Clarkson (27) and Allan Whitson (31) were awarded first place and presented with their prize by Anne Clyde, area manager for UKSE.
The joint founders of XL Tec Recruitment established their business in 2008. With expertise in the recruitment sector, the duo planned to specialise in the construction and facility management sectors. However, the financial downturn prompted Greg and Allan to re-focus their efforts on the oil and gas industry. Now, two years on, the pair have an impressive client list which includes Transocean, Maersk and Dolphin.
The company's success has allowed Greg and Allan to open an office in India and employ a local specialist. They also hope to recruit six consultants within the next 18 months.
Having won the Lanarkshire regional final, Greg and Allan will now be considered for the national award which takes place on Tuesday November 16th 2010 at Glasgow's City Chambers. Six of the 18 regional winners will compete for the title of PSYBT ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year' and the opportunity to win an additional £2,000.
Anne Clyde said: “We are delighted to support PSYBT and these awards which recognise the achievements of Scotland's young people and encourage an environment that celebrates business innovation. Entrepreneurship is essential to our future prosperity not just in the Lanarkshire region but throughout Scotland.” |
