28th June 2012The Italian Job Comes To Saltburn
More than 30,000 people are expected to enjoy a fantastic day of free entertainment in Saltburn, including an air show and the Minis used in the original film ‘The Italian Job.
A grant of £5000 towards the event came from UK Steel Enterprise’s Community Support Fund that helps to improve the lives of people living in steel areas.
“I am really grateful for the support as the event could not have gone ahead without it,” said Glenn Pearson of the Saltburn Events Committee. “Times are hard at the moment with events being cancelled from a lack of funding so UK Steel Enterprise’s help ensured that we could go ahead.
“We are in an area of high employment and a lot of families just don’t have the money to spend on entertainment. Our aim is to provide a free fun-filled day that absolutely everyone can enjoy. This is a positive event for the whole community and we are hoping that the weather will be kind.”
Staged on Saltburn’s Lower Promenade on July 1 ‘The Italian Job’ will include appearances by the Minis from the original movie and stunt driver Russ Swift with his Minis who will be thrilling the crowds with his precision driving skills.
An Air Show featuring RAF displays includes appearances by a Battle of Britain Spitfire, RAF Haw, Tornado GR4 Demonstration Team and Red Hawk Duo as well as a display by the Breitling wing-walkers.
Visitors will also see some of the country’s top balloon artists who are coming from London and there will be food, music, stalls, activities for children and a video film made of the day.
Simon Hamilton Regional Manager for UK Steel Enterprise, the business support subsidiary of Tata Steel, said: “This is a fantastic event, organised by a non-profit community group, and catering for all ages. We are very pleased to contribute from our Community Support Fund and hope that everyone has a great day out.”
